As The Page Turns - July 2017
When the temperatures soar through the month of July, remember to stop by the library and check out a book or a movie. There is always something new on the shelf.
Summer Library Program – The library staff has wrapped up the summer library program. There was a total of 121 kids signed up for programs this summer. We averaged 80 youth a week in the library for programs. We ended our programming with an awesome program that was called Dream and Draw A Better World. Teacher/Artist, Kyle Tiernan, from Kansas City led an engaging program that had all 54 kids drawing three pictures to take home.
Firecracker Run – Participants lined up early the morning of July 4th to Run/Walk in the Firecracker Run. 56 energetic people took on the challenge of doing the 3 mile event and passed through several stations of color while they went through the route. By the time they made it to the finish line each individual was coated in a rainbow of colors. Everyone had a great time and there were many people along the route cheering them on. Be looking for this event again next year on the 4th.
Terrific Tuesdays – The library is headed out the door to provide an outreach opportunity with the summer lunch program. Each Tuesday during the months of June and July a book and a program will be presented at the summer lunch program. An average of 42 kids have participated in the programs for the month of June. Programs are located at the Osborne Elementary School lunchroom. Free lunches for children are served from 11:30-12:30. Adults can purchase a meal for $4.
Frog, Toad and Turtle Races – The library will sponsor the Frog, Toad and Turtle Race at the Osborne County Fair this summer. Race night will be Friday, July 28th under the covered arena. Start time will be 6:30. We hope you can find a critter to race.
Book of the Month – “All The Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr is the book that has been chosen by the library staff for the month of June/July. This is a Pulitzer Prize winner and is about a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths collide in occupied France during WWII. Discussion night will be held on July 13th at 5:30.
Upcoming Events – On August 7th, the library will host a pizza party for the Read to Me: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten graduates and participants. The library will host another Movie Under the Stars on August 11th. August 28th another Handmade Home event will take place at 5:30.
