October 2019 As The Page Turns
Summer may be winding down but the library is getting ready for new programs.
Youth Programs – The after school programs will begin the first week in October. Make sure to get your child signed up. WAC programs, grades K-2, will meet at 2:20 to 3:20 on Wednesday afternoons at the library. Our older kids, grades 3-5, will now meet on the first Thursday of each month at 3:30 to 5:00. Sprouts will also resume again in October and will meet the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 5:30. Korbin Heller was the lucky winner of a Cosmosphere pass from all the pre-registered kids in the fall programs.
Story Hour is in full swing with 30 preschool children signed up. It is fun to share reading with the youth in the community.
Movie Under the Stars – The last outdoor movie for the 2019 year will be held on Thursday, October 17th at 7:30. The library will be showing Beetlejuice. The movies that were shown outside in 2019 were made possible from a grant from the Osborne County Community Foundation. The grant monies helped pay for the licensing of the movies.
Book of the Month – The October book of the Month is “The Woman in Cabin 10” by Ruth Ware. This book is a suspenseful and haunting novel set at sea. Discussion on this book will be on October 24th at 5:30 at the library. If you would like to read a copy of this book, contact the library and the staff will get one for you.
William Allen White Awards – Each year, students across the state of Kansas are asked to read selected books for their age group and then vote on their favorite. The author of the book with the most votes is invited to attend the William Allen White Award ceremony. Once again, the library is sponsoring students to attend this event. Students must have read one book from the William Allen White Book List and write a book report on it. Their name will be put in a drawing to attend the award ceremony. This is a wonderful event for our youth to get to meet an author of books that they read.
New Books –
The Titanic Secret by Clive Cussler
Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl
Old Bones by Preston/Child
The Oysterville Sewing Circle by Susan Wiggs
